Nuovo progetto Erasmus+ Sport: Dual Careers for Mental Health (DC4MH)

 

Sono arrivate ottime notizie dall’ultima Call Erasmus+ Sport 2020: l’Università di Verona è partner di un nuovo progetto intitolato Dual Careers for Mental Health (DC4MH). Coordinato dal Gruppo di ricerca “Sport Psychology and Mental Support” (prof. Paul Wylleman, dr. Koen De Brandt, dr. Jolan Kegelaers, dr. Simon Defruyt and dr. Sofie Smismans) della Vrije Universiteit Brussel, ha ricevuto il massimo finanziamento di 400mila euro!

Il Team dell’Università di Verona che seguirà il progetto è composto dalla prof.ssa Francesca Vitali, dalla dr.ssa Cecilia Camellini, dal prof. Federico Schena, cui si aggiunge il prof. Corrado Barbui, Direttore del World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health and Service Evaluation con sede a Verona.

Il progetto inizierà a gennaio 2021 e avrà una durata di due anni. Sono 28 gli esperti europei coinvolti, che rappresentano 10 organizzazioni afferenti a 6 diversi Paesi europei (Belgio, Danimarca, Italia, Slovenia, Spagna e Svezia). Il consorzio coinvolge enti molto diversi (es. Enti pubblici, centri di eccellenza per la performance sportiva, società sportive di élite, università, Istituti legati alla salute).

La finalità del progetto DC4MH è quella di ottimizzare i servizi di supporto alla salute mentale degli atleti di élite in doppia carriera offerti dalle organizzazioni europee. Più nello specifico, gli obiettivi sono quelli di sviluppare, implementare e valutare strumenti e raccomandazioni basate sulla ricerca scientifica per:

  1. Strutturare servizi nelle organizzazioni che sostengono la doppia carriera a favore della salute mentale
  2. Monitorare la salute mentale
  3. Diffondere la conoscenza sulla salute mentale
  4. Identificare delle strategie per rinforzare la resilienza psicologica

Gli strumenti e le raccomandazioni che saranno sviluppati e implementati durante il progetto consentiranno alle organizzazioni che sostengono la doppia carriera di ottimizzare i propri servizi a supporto della salute mentale e di facilitare una combinazione salutare fra studio e sport di alto livello. Il consorzio conta di poter coinvolgere fra tutti i Paesi coinvolti più di 9mila atleti di élite europei in doppia carriera. Il progetto DC4MH mira a migliorare la ricerca e le politiche a favore della doppia carriera attraverso:

  • la promozione e l’aumento della consapevolezza sul legame fra doppia carriera e salute mentale;
  • lo sviluppo di una comprensione più chiara dei nessi fra doppia carriera e salute mentale;
  • la valutazione e lo sviluppo dei servizi di supporto alla doppia carriera;
  • la cooperazione di differenti stakeholder del sistema sportivo, accademico e della salute coinvolti nel sostegno alla doppia carriera e della promozione della salute mentale.

IL CONSORZIO DC4MH

Per raggiungere una expertise ottimale su doppia carriera e salute mentale e per poter soddisfare gli obiettivi del progetto, sono stati coinvolti molteplici esperti. Il consorzio include

  • Team Denmark (Lars Holm, Magnus Wonsyld, Christina Teller, Anders Voigt Tinning, Gregory Diment);
  • Swedish Sport Confederation (Peter Mattsson, Kent Lindahl, Göran Kenttä);
  • Centre d’Alt Rendiment (Susana Reguela, Xavier Balius).

New Erasmus+ Sport project: Dual Careers for Mental Health (DC4MH)

Good news from the Call Erasmus+ Sport 2020: the University of Verona is partner of a new project titled Dual Careers for Mental Health (DC4MH). Coordinated by the Group “Sport Psychology and Mental Support” (prof. Paul Wylleman, dr. Koen De Brandt, dr. Jolan Kegelaers, dr. Simon Defruyt and dr. Sofie Smismans) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the project will be funded for the full grant of 400k euro!

The Team of the University of Verona that lead the project is composed by prof. Francesca Vitali, dr. Cecilia Camellini, prof. Federico Schena, and prof. Corrado Barbui, Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health and Service Evaluation in Verona.

The project will start in January 2021 and will continue for two years. The project brings together a consortium of 28 European experts on mental health and dual career representing 10 organizations from 6 Member States (Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden). The consortium includes a range of different organizations (i.e., national sport governing bodies, high performance center, elite sport club, universities, sport gymnasium, health institute) and span both secondary education and higher education.

DC4MH aims to optimize mental health services within European Dual Career (DC) ‘elite sport and education’ organizations. More specifically, the objective is to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based mental health promotion recommendations and tools, centered around:

  1. Mental health structures in DC organizations
  2. Mental health monitoring
  3. Mental health literacy 
  4. Preventive psychological resilience-building strategies

The recommendations and tools developed and implemented within this project will allow DC organizations to optimize their support services and facilitate a healthy combination of high-level sports and education. It is projected that 9.195 DC athletes can be involved in this project through the consortium partners. DC4MH and its outcomes aim to make an impact by bringing direct added value to dual career practice, research and policy by:

  • promoting and increasing awareness on the topic of dual career and mental health,
  • providing opportunities to develop a detailed understanding of dual career and mental health,
  • increasing and enhancing opportunities for the evaluation and development of DC athletes’ and DC stakeholders’ competencies,
  • increasing and enhancing opportunities for the evaluation and optimization of DC support services, and
  • facilitating cooperation related to dual career and mental health between sport, education and health stakeholders.

DC4MH CONSORTIUM

In order to ensure an optimal expertise in relation to the topic of dual career and mental health, the project team brings together experts with specific and complementary expertise, responsibilities and tasks, from six EU Member States. The consortium includes:
